i stayed in hilo on big island and really enjoyed it. the town is very quaint, in an island kind of way, with beautiful buildings
lots of parks and gardens, nice little restaurants and you can find anything you want
just as i thought i left tokyo, hilo has the lili'uokalani japanese gardens 500m from my hotel !
apparently the gardens were build in honor of japanese immigrants
really beautiful, especially wit the ocean as a backdrop !

coconut island is little island that is reached by a skinny footbridge. the hawaiians knew the island as the "healing island", and came to the island seeking cures - now it is filled with westerners in bikinis !
