Hauacalera

from Salta, I took a 6 hour long bus trip to hauacalera. it is a little town in the province of Jujuy. hauacalera is in the heart of the andes mountains.

very colourful graveyard

one of the most beautiful things in the area is the different colours rocks
the canyon of purmamarca meets the canyon of humahuaca and is called "hill of the seven colours"

surrounded by a beautiful valley, the small town named after the native tribe that used to live in the area. The town had an enormous commercial importance during colonial times in the, then existing, Alto Peru.

the church was built in the xviii century
love the almost gold colour of the leaves against the blue sky
i stayed at hotel huacalera. it was one of the nicest hotels i have stayed in - very unexpected as it is in the middle of nowhere .
very designer meets tradition. this is a traditional 'doll' that is used in the hotel for decoration.
i forgot his name, but he is meant to be a good luck token.you hang small items from him as a symbol of what you wish for :)
